The annual cost of HAIs in the U.S. is staggering. Especially considering that these are preventable infections. In 2013, an article titled “Economic burden of healthcare-associated infection in US acute care hospitals: societal perspective” was published in the Journal of Medical Economics and according to their study, the annual cost of healthcare-associated infection totaled an estimated $96-147 billion annually.
